BITE PROFILE | HANNA UKURA [PART I]
Hanna Ukura is a 28-year-old photographer living in Stockholm, Sweden. Hailing from the countryside, her photography often captures the quieter moments of everyday life – be it in nature or industry.
Could you tell us more about your exhibition Of The Afternoon in London last February? The exhibition in London was a group show with photos for the second issue launch of a new – totally fantastic – magazine called Of The Afternoon, which showcases contemporary photography. I’ve had the honour of being in their first two issues and it’s an amazing magazine for those who haven’t stumbled upon it yet. The exhibition was also a sort of goodbye evening to the Underground Gallery, which unfortunately had to close down a few days afterwards.
What fascinates you most about your subjects? The thing that separates us as humans. The small or big difference that makes every individual to a unique person, different from the one you last observed.
To what extent has being a member of The Association of Swedish Professional Photographers [SFF] helped you in your pursuit? SFF helps and supports in many ways and by giving a nice overview of what is happening in Sweden photography-wise at this very moment. I recently was awarded a travel and education grant from them that to enable a longer project this summer, which I’ve been wanting to do for some time. So nothing but warmth when I think of them!
